Method dryer clothsIf you have pets, you’re going through life with some degree of pet hair on your clothes. The use of fabric softener is pretty much a must. So when I heard that Method had a dryer cloth that’s vegan-friendly I jumped at the first chance I got to try them out. Actually, all of their products are free of animal by-products and apparently other brands of dryer sheets use animal fats. Ick!

Here you see my pack; it’s the Free + Clear scent which is unoffensive to my sensitive nose. The reason why it’s in plastic is that the cloths are actually damp! They’re infused with plant-based softeners, according to the Method website. To my surprise, you can use each cloth two times or once for big laundry loads. I’ve been sprinkling a bit of water on them before the second go. I’m not sure if it helps any but it can’t hurt.

I’ve no complaints. They’re keeping the static at bay and the laundry is coming out with no pet hair. I’m a little concerned at the price, though. They cost about $8, and if I can get 80 uses out of a 40-pack of cloths that would equal to 10ยข each load. Not bad. But there’s probably a better DIY way.

I’m now thinking of making my own liquid fabric softener using this recipe, and combining it with recipe #1, #2 or #5 from DIY Maven’s post. I think this will be an insanely cheap option. Plus, it’ll avoid all the commercial packaging. I especially don’t like having empty plastic bottles of laundry detergent, and the like, to rinse out. It feels like a waste of potable water.

I’ll have a think on this while the Method dryer cloths get used up. Stay tuned…
