Juice it: Tonique à la meansoybean

A Tonique from Aux Vivres is good for what ails you. Seriously! It’s swimming with apple, lemon and ginger juices. But at $6, for a 12 ounce glass, it can get pricey.

I was gifted a centrifugal juicer last month and was set on figuring out the recipe. I’m glad to say I succeeded on the first go and managed to add my own twist — an optional pear for added sweetness. So if you’ve got an extractor of your own, you can stow away those pennies for another day.

Tonique à la meansoybean
Serves 2

4 Spartan apples
1 pear (optional)
1 lemon, peeled
1.5″ piece of ginger

Run all ingredients through the juicer. Strain froth and pour over ice before serving. Enjoy!

  1. I’m bookmarking this!

Cool! I just had a Tonique from the take-out counter yesterday and it was really bad. Too much lemon, I think. It was the peak of brunch so maybe the staff was overloaded. Still, I felt ripped off.

I really like the zing that ginger gives so now I make sure to add a little to almost all my juices.

  2. I finally got to try it today. It’s very tasty and has a beautiful pink color. My boyfriend actually said it was the first juice I made that was really good… hats to you! He says it tastes like old-fashioned lemonade.

Thanks for letting me know how it worked out!

I forgot to make a little note that ingredient quantities for juicing recipes may need “to taste” tweaking due to variations on fruit size. But I’m glad you guys enjoyed it :)
